Privacy Policy
Kodok uses what you follow and read to make your brief, for you alone.
Without Kodok Plus, Kodok shows ads from Google, targeted only as far as you allow. Kodok never gives Google what you read, follow or ask. Kodok Plus has no ads in your feeds.
What you search for isn’t stored. You can see, export and delete what Kodok keeps.
What Kodok Collects, and Why
Your account Before you sign in, a random account ID. With Apple: Apple’s ID for you, the email Apple shares (which can be a private relay address) and, the first time, the name you choose to share. With Google: Google’s ID for you, your Google email and name, and the address of your Google profile photo. The photo itself is kept on your iPhone only.
What you follow and choose The topics, people, companies, places, blogs and subreddits you follow, saved stories, and More, Less and Hide. They make your brief and your For You feed, and nobody else’s.
Your reading Which stories and articles you open, for how long, and what you’ve seen, so Kodok can show only what changed since you last looked and rank For You. Kodok also counts per day how many stories you read, how long you read, and how many searches and questions you make.
Ask Your questions and their answers, kept as conversations you can pick up later, until you delete them. Kodok also records which model answered and how much it cost, never the text.
Search What you search for is sent to Kodok’s servers to find stories, and isn’t kept there. Only a daily count is kept. Your recent searches stay on your iPhone.
This iPhone A random ID for this installation, its time zone and language (to know when your day starts), whether notifications are allowed and, if they are, the address Apple gives Kodok to send them.
Kodok Plus Your plan, its usage counters, and the purchase records Apple sends Kodok: the transaction, product, price, currency, country and date. Kodok never sees your payment details.
Reddit, if you connect it Your Reddit username, profile picture and the subreddits you choose.
Where It Goes
Kodok’s servers Everything above is kept on Kodok’s servers, in a database and sign-in service run by Supabase. Only you can read your own data. Kodok’s staff can see counts of how an account is used, never what you read, follow or ask, and every look is recorded.
AI models, through OpenRouter Kodok’s servers use AI models from several providers, reached through OpenRouter, to write the brief from published articles; Kodok picks the models for quality and cost and may change them. Your search words and questions go to them only if you agree, asked before your first search or question. Then they are sent without your name or account, and when a model writes an answer, your question, the earlier questions and answers in that conversation and the matching stories go with it. OpenRouter and the provider that answers handle them under their own terms, which may include keeping them for a time. Without your agreement, search matches keywords on Kodok’s servers and nothing you type goes to a model provider. You can change this in Settings.
Apple Sign in with Apple signs you in, and the App Store handles Kodok Plus purchases. Apple delivers notifications: a notification carries only an ID and a general line, and your iPhone fetches its text from Kodok. On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, Apple’s models answer Ask on the iPhone or on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, which keeps nothing after it answers.
Composio and Reddit If you connect Reddit, Composio handles Reddit’s sign-in and keeps the read-only access Reddit grants, encrypted, using it only to read for Kodok. Kodok never posts, comments, votes or sends messages. Disconnecting in Settings, or deleting your account, revokes the access.
Google sign-in If you sign in with Google, Google signs you in and shares your name, email and profile photo with Kodok. Kodok sends no email.
Google’s ads Without Kodok Plus, Kodok shows ads from Google AdMob in your feeds, and anyone can watch them for more Ask questions. Kodok gives Google nothing of its own about you: not your account, what you read or follow, or what you ask. Google’s software in Kodok collects your IP address (which gives a rough location), information about this iPhone and the app, and how you interact with ads, to choose, show and count ads, measure them and stop fraud, under Google’s privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy). Google may use this, and what it already knows, to show you ads that interest you. Where the law requires it (the UK, the European Economic Area, Switzerland and some US states), Google’s form asks for your consent first. Then Apple asks whether Kodok may let Google use your iPhone’s advertising identifier to track you across other companies’ apps and websites; if you don’t allow it, it isn’t shared. Before any ad, Kodok asks your age: Apple’s age range sheet, or your birth year if you don’t share it. Only adults see ads chosen for them; for anyone under 18, Google is told to show none chosen for them and Apple’s tracking question isn’t asked. Your age stays on this iPhone. Settings › Privacy & Your Data › How Ads Work shows what ads use and lets you change your choices. When you watch ads for another Ask question, Google tells Kodok’s servers only that an ad was watched, with a random ID for the reward.
Logs and error reports Kodok’s servers log each request’s route, result and time, never your address or what you typed, for 30 days. When they hit an error, a report goes to an error-monitoring service (Sentry), without your account, the request or what it contained, kept 90 days.
Apart from what Google’s ads collect as above, Kodok doesn’t sell your data or share it with anyone else, except where the law requires it.
How Long It’s Kept
Each kind of data has its own period, listed in “How Long Kodok Keeps It”. Periods are exact: housekeeping runs every 1 hour, so data goes within 1 hour of its period ending.
Reddit content removed on Reddit is deleted from Kodok, with everything made from it, when found: every stored thread is checked again at least every 24 hours, however old.
Your Choices and Rights
See and export Settings › Your Data & Privacy shows what Kodok keeps about you, with counts and dates, and exports a copy of it.
Change or withdraw Edit your name, unfollow anything, reset For You, turn off notifications, disconnect Reddit, and withdraw your agreement to sending your searches and questions to AI models as easily as you gave it.
Delete Delete one Ask conversation, or your whole account, in Settings.
Ask or complain Write to us through the support address on Kodok’s App Store page. You can also complain to your data protection authority.
Deleting Your Account
Delete Account in Settings deletes your account, what you follow, saved stories, questions, reading history and your iPhones’ notification addresses, within 2 hours. It can’t be undone.
A few records stay without your account: the cost of model calls made for you (with every link to you removed), purchase records for accounting (with their link to you removed), and records of staff access and of data requests, under a one-way code. Server logs and error reports age out on their own periods.
A Kodok Plus subscription is Apple’s to cancel: Kodok Plus Terms say what deleting your account means for it.
Treatments, Medicines, and Diagnoses
Stories about treatments, medicines, or diagnoses are always written by Kodok’s servers, never on your iPhone. They’re kept out of Spotlight, and what you read in them never shapes For You. Kodok never infers anything about your health, doesn’t use Apple Health, and doesn’t collect health data.
Children
Kodok is a news reader for a general audience. It doesn’t ask your age and doesn’t knowingly collect information from children. A parent who believes their child has an account can delete it in Settings, or contact us.
Changes
When this policy changes, the new version appears here with its date, and the app tells you before it takes effect.
